The Red Deer Rebels downed the Kamloops Blazers 5-3 on Friday afternoon in Kamloops. Kamloops scored the first goal of the game as Logan McVeigh tipped in a shot for his third goal of the season. The Blazers outshot the Rebels 9-5 in the period.
The Rebels took the lead as they scored two goals only 51 seconds apart for a 2-1 lead in the second period. The Blazers tied the game on an unfortunate bounce off the stick of Justin Weller, when a clearing attempt was deflected into the net The Blazers and Rebels were tied 2-2 going into the final period.
In the third period, the Rebels struck first as Daulton Siwak slipped one past goaltender Cole Cheveldave. The very next shift, the Blazers fourth line struck for a goal as Ryan Hanes went to the net and tied the game at 3-3. The Rebels, who stuck to their structure and were more patient in this game, scored what ended up being the game winning goal. Adam Kambeitz scored on a rebound, while the Rebels added an empty net goal for a 5-3 win.
The Rebels were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Blazers went 0-for-2. Shots on goal were 27-23 in favour of the Blazers. The Rebels travel to Victoria to take on the Salmon Kings Saturday and Sunday to finish the BC portion of their road trip.
