Home Advantage
Adam Kambeitz had 2 goals, and Daulton Siwak picked up the winner, as Red Deer took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series with a 5-1 victory over Edmonton Saturday night.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would get things started 10:39 in, taping home a feed from Andrej Kudrna. With 2:16 remaining in the period, Daulton Siwak wrapped one home past goaltender Jon Groenheyde. Jordan Hickmott put Edmonton on the board with 58 seconds left in the first, and it was 2-1 Red Deer after one.
The second period would remain scoreless, until a determined Brett Ferguson stripped an Oil King defender behind the net, and fed Adam Kambeitz for the shorthanded goal. It was 3-1 Red Deer after two periods.
The third period was the Rebels' best of the game, controlling the tempo and limiting Edmonton's scoring chances. Justin Weller would connect on a breakway out of the penalty box at 12:38, and Kambeitz would finish things off on the powerplay with 44 second remaining.
Each team had 28 shots on goal. Edmonton would once again be held without a powerplay goal (5 chances), while Red Deer went 1 for 5.
