Red Deer defeats Medicine Hat 6-3

GAME SUMMARY

The Tigers were looking to help Tyler Bunz rewrite the Tigers' record book with a win on Tuesday night. The Tigers' netminder is tied with Matt Keetley for the all-time lead in wins with 105. They were facing off against a Rebels squad that they have had success against this season, having won all four meetings. Emerson Etem had another big night but the Tigers were unable to overcome the Rebels offence. Red Deer controlled much of the play and outshot the Tigers 42-27 to win their first game in the season series 6-3.

Emerson Etem was the lone goal scorer for the Tigers. The hat trick was his 5th of the season brought his season total to 47 goals, a new career high. His first goal was scored in the opening frame on the power play from Hunter Shinkaruk and Matthew Konan to tie the game at 1-1. His second goal would come under a minute into play in the second period. This time it was an unassisted shorthanded marker to tie the game at 2-2. He put home his hat trick goal late in the third period while on the power play again. The goal made it a 5-3 game with under three minutes to play. Konan picked up his second assist on the goal. Tyler Bunz got the call in net for the Tigers and allowed 5 goals on 42 shots. The special teams had a good night scoring twice on four power play chances while also killing off all three Rebel power plays.

The Rebels' offence came from a few different players. Tyson Ness and Charles Inglis each scored a pair of goals for the Rebels. Turner Elson also picked up a pair of points with a goal and an assist. John Persson added the final goal for the Rebels into the empty net to secure the win. Former Tiger Deven Dubyk had a strong game in net for Red Deer saving 24 of 27 shots to pick up his 11th win of the season.
